Who we are

We are a team of change-makers who believe that every helping hand can raise a child and create a better future for them.

March 1, 2018, SOCMINC opened up a brick and mortar one-stop resource center in East Charlotte. With the support of a consistent 30+ paying monthly business supporters, dozens of accumulated services from those businesses, and several dozen small grants awarded to its collaborative, SOCMINC began supporting and engaging with several youth programs. This interaction gave KEFA the experience it needed to build its own program.

Today SOCMINC is located at 2201 Caronia Street and office donated to use by Grace Mar Services Inc, through Inlvian (formerly The Charlotte Housing Authority). This past summer, SOCMINC served over 40 youth through its summer camp, which helped students in the West Coordinator with schoolwork, leadership and arts. Most important the camp provided a safe place for youth and children ages 10-17. Some of the partners that contributed to the camp included, Mecklenburg Sheriff’s department, the local YMCA, and Inlivian. Students also received two meals per day and were given workshops and visits from Commissioner Mark Jerrell, Sheriff McFadden, and Corine Mack. After the success of the summer camp, SOCMINC leadership was asked to continue the summer camp by starting a Afterschool program in partnership with West Charlotte Public Library. Currently, the Afterschool program operates two days per week and has 20 full time students and 35 students on a waiting list.

Our approach

Our Mission

The Save Our Children Movement Inc’s (SOCMINC) mission is to provide some of the basic and practical needs of our children and their families in low-income areas of Mecklenburg County. The areas of services provided include summer and after school programs, job training, job placement, food, prison rehabilitation, clothing, recreation, education, apprenticeships, mentorship, family support, financial literacy, mental health, crime prevention, and other child and family matters.

SOCMINC a 501c3 has introduced children and families to a program that will address their mental, physical, artistic, health, recreational, economic, and social issues through a collaborative of community organizations, government entities, corporate sponsors, and other partners throughout Mecklenburg County.
